First Alert 2.1 Cubic Foot Water, Fire, and Theft Digital Safe Review

Although perhaps best known for their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms, First Alert also manufactures security cameras, security boxes, security chests, security doors, security safes, and gun safes.

In fact, First Alert is based in Chicago, IL. and is owned and operated by eAccess Solutions, Inc. which is a worldwide provider consumer products, software, and consulting services. Consequently, their products are distributed worldwide and they serve over 65% of the U.S. Fortune 100 as well as branches of the U.S. Government, the U.S. Military, and educational institutions in addition to small business and individuals worldwide. Therefore, there stated goal is “to exceed your expectations with top-notch customer service driven by our hands on experience with the products we sell”.

Therefore, First Alert “Fire, Water and Theft” Safes are specifically designed to be heavy-duty safes that provide the user with superior protection from fire, water, and theft. Now, I am aware that when most of us think of safes, we think of them as place to store our valuables in order to protect them from criminals who would gladly abscond with them given the chance and indeed, that was the first function of the safe.

However, anyone who watches the evening news is aware of the many natural disasters that are happing yearly across the United States ranging from forest fires, to torrential floods, to hurricanes. In addition, one cannot help but notice the sharp rise in crime generated by the “Great Recession” and the country’s achingly slow recovery which are forcing people to do things they would not normally do in order to feed their families. Consequently, the number of burglaries is also on the rise nationwide and thus, it is simply a wise idea to purchase a safe in which to store your valuables.

However, while most any safe will deter a burger who is looking for items which they can absconded with quickly, only some safes will protect your valuables from damage by excessive heat caused by fire and very few safes will protect your valuables from flood waters. Thus, the First Alert 2096DF is an answer to all three problems. It features internal dimensions of 19 5/8” x 13 1/2” x 13 7/8” and, in order to protect your valuables from criminals intent on theft, this safe features patented, pry-resistant, concealed, hinges, a backlit digital keypad with a programmable, digital, lock that uses your own personal 3 to 8 digit pass-code along with four live, and two dead, bolts to secure the door.

In addition, the First Alert 2.13 cu. Ft. fire safe features two, adjustable/removable, shelves, a pull-out file rack, a hanging key rack, and a passport / document storage pocket. Plus, it is a UL classified “media protection device” and thus, testing done by an independent lab has verified that the safe will protect digital media including memory sticks, CD’s, DVD’s and external hard drives for 1 hour at an external temperature of 1700 degrees Fahrenheit while maintaining an internal temperature of no more than 350 degrees.

Furthermore, the safe’s composite construction and water tight seal causes the safe to float in the event of a flood (which makes it easier to find) and yet, the contents will remain dry even if the safe is fully submerged.

Plus, this safe also includes an override key that will enable the user to open the safe in the event that they forget their passcode or the batteries are not replaced before they lose their charge.

Last, due to its hefty 145 lb. weight, the First Alert 2.1 Cubic Foot Water, Fire, and Theft Digital Safe also includes a removable, extendable, handle with two wheels so that it can be easily moved to different locations in your home or business.

“Very good for keeping photos and other memories from being consumed by the fire or destroyed by the water. Mostly a plastic container that floats and it is supposed to be water resistant.

Reviewer: Paul Dumitru
“I bought this safe since it had the best ratings for fire resistance and water protection… I wanted to have a safe to keep my important papers in it and know they are protected in case of fire. As theft protection, it is poorly constructed, plastic case and pretty light… The safe even full slides very easily across carpeted floors and even hardwood floors so it can be carried out of the house very easily… The safe cannot be bolted to the floor or a back wall. I hope it is as good as it is rated for fire and water protection, although they recommend to put documents in gladware or other waterproof containers. The water seal does not look encouraging.. The construction is not sturdy, a lot of plastic parts and it does not look like it is going to last long or take abuse…I can only say that the water from the fire department will probably get in without much effort.”

Although the many features of the First Alert 2096DF make this sound like a fantastic product, after in depth researching and reading many negative reviews regarding key features of this safe, I am skeptical about purchasing or recommending one of these safes to anyone.

4 Clever Hidden Gun Safe Options and One Bad Idea

Often the quickest and most convenient way to safely store guns is by buying a gun safe. However, there are many clever gun owners that have come up with surprising ways to conceal their firearms while safely storing them out of the reach of children and thieves.

We’ve got five ways listed below that can get your creative juices flowing too. While they many not be feasible for everyone, seeing examples of thinking outside the box (in this case, thinking outside of the safe!) can help you come up with your own custom hidden gun safes.

It can also help limit cost – some of these solutions provide extra protection (like building a safe into a closet wall). Others are more expensive than a standard gun safe (like the shipping container idea!).

Any way you decide to move forward, make sure that the guns are unable to be accidentally discharged by storing them without ammunition and storing ammo away from the guns. Also, if there are kids around or if you have a lot of visitors or parties, your storage solution absolutely must be able to be secured by a high quality lock. Finally, remember that your overall goal is the art of deception. What thieves can’t find, they can’t steal.

First up is this amazing soda machine converted to a gun safe submitted on reddit by user Hartf1jm, pictured below.

Where’s the gun safe, you ask? Exactly my point – you could never tell that there are guns stashed inside – check out all the images and explanation at this page. People buy soda machines all the time for nostalgic reasons, and to store their soda of course, so it’s not unusual that a person would have one in their home. Overall building a safe like this means that you are completely relying on deception to prevent theft of your guns, which is a huge upside, because most people would probably ignore the machine and look for valuables elsewhere. It is also an extremely frugal option – machines like these go on Craigslist for $50 to $100.

The major downside is that there aren’t any features such as a UL listed lock or thick steel walls that would prevent a thief from breaking in if he knew that there were valuable items inside. It definitely wouldn’t pass the basic Residential Security Container test, and person with a crowbar could be inside the machine in just a minute.

Our advice if you do decide to go with something like this is to never tell anyone that you don’t trust completely about it. Say you’re having a get together, and you want to show off your latest project on your workbench to some folks you met recently, and one of them looks across the basement and sees your soda machine, and asks if it actually works – just tell them it doesn’t, and don’t let on that it’s a safe. Many burglaries happen because the wrong person got just a bit of inside knowledge and took advantage.

Another option for someone looking for a cheap way to deceptively hide guns in plain sight is a classic – the old hollowed out book. While you may have disregarded it because it seems like something that only exists in cartoons, it actually is a legitimate option for storing a handgun. has a great detailed tutorial on how to make your own version of this “gun safe” here.

Now “gun safe” is in parenthesis for a reason – because it’s not a gun safe at all! There are multiple major disadvantages to this approach to firearm storage. First, if you live in California, it doesn’t meet the basic requirements of the Firearm Safe and Responsible Responsible Access Act, which requires that guns be stored in such a way that children could not have access to them. I’m not a lawyer, so don’t take my opinion as the truth on the matter, but it sure seems to me that a book on a shelf does not meet the requirements of the law.

Second, an experienced thief might know to look for this sort of thing, and it would be a simple and quick thing to quickly knock all your books on the ground to see what might fall out.

Third, it would be easy to accidentally knock your gun to the ground while trying to get a book off the shelf. This could lead to unintended discharge and injury, not to mention property damage.

Using hollowed out books seems feasible only if you own a small handful handguns at most and if you live alone with no visitors – but this is the bad option referred to in the title of this page!

An unusual but really good option for a hidden gun safe involves buying a gun safe and then building it into your home’s structure. Clever reddit user shikijiyu shows in this post how he went from this:

to this:

This is not only an attractive way to install a gun safe in your house, it actually increases security. Because this safe is stored in a tight place in a closet, a would-be thief is more limited in his options for getting into it. It’s much harder, if not impossible, to swing an axe properly in the tight quarters of a small closet. So, simple blunt force tools will not be as effective as they would be if the safe were out in the open in your basement. A thief with power tools still wouldn’t have too much of a problem sawing through the safe door, so if you decide to go this route, consider how you can better hide away any Sawzalls, circular saws, chainsaws, acetylene torches, or anything else that could be used to cut through metal.

This method is also deceptive as the safe door can be hidden behind stacked boxes and hanging clothing. It also allows you to create a solid wooden frame around the safe that you can bolt the safe to multiple times in multiple directions. Bolting the safe down from the inside is one of the most important things you can do for the security of your safe, so the more bolts the better.

Overall this option is more complicated and expensive than simply buying a gun safe, as you will have to either take the time to do it yourself or hire the job out. We’d recommend taking this on yourself for obvious reasons – the fewer people who know about your gun stash the better! Another drawback is that not everyone has closet space to sacrifice to a gun safe.

If you do choose to do something like this, the Snap Safe Super Titan is a great option because it has thick 8 gauge steel walls and because it’s modular. Because you can carry it up stairs in pieces and put it together wherever you want it, it’s more convenient than lugging a 500 to 1,000 pound safe up a flight of stairs!

Another option similar to this would be to build your very own gun vault:

The folks over at 3 acres and 3 thousand sq ft describe how they used some space in their basement to construct a gun vault from cinder block walls. The vault door was bought from a company that sells safe doors, although these can be found on eBay and occasionally Craigslist if you’re lucky!

The major advantages to something like this is obvious – it’s very secure and it’s huge! You’ll never run out of space to store guns and other valuables for sure!

If you choose to build something like this, though, be sure to consult a professional, even if you decide to build it yourself.

Last, but not least, is the most impressive hidden gun safe and unusual option – buying a shipping container and burying it in your backyard! If you’ve never heard of this before, it’s actually more common than you might think.

A container like this can cost between $1,000 and $3,000, which may surprise you because that’s the same price range as a quality gun safe! However, the cost goes up as this is a major construction project. First, you have to pay to have it shipped to your property. Then, you’ll have to dig a hole big enough for it and prepare a foundation. Then, you’ll need to create gabion baskets to surround the container to provide structural support so the walls don’t cave in and to provide drainage. Then, you’ll need to create a quality, locking, hidden access door. Then, you’ll need to find a way to dehumidify such a large space so your guns don’t rust. Is that enough steps to convince you that this is the most expensive option in this article?

There are some cool advantages to doing this, though. First, you have a nice storm shelter if you live in a part of the country prone to tornadoes. Second, you’ll have more than enough space for your guns – and probably more than enough space for a cool man cave. Third, if your access door to the container is well hidden, no thief would be thinking to look for underground gun storage.

Hopefully this helped get your creative juices flowing – there’s always more than one way to get things done, and this is never more true than with gun storage. Just be sure to use your head, stay safe, and keep your guns locked up and out of the hands of kids, and you should be good to go!

Sentry Safe SFW123DSB Review

Sentry Safe is a company that has manufactured and sold safes for over eighty years. Their wonderful fire-safe safes have been a constant consumer favorite. Sentry Safe is able to confidently market its fire and water safe products due to rigorously adhering to independent testing by ETL Semko (ETL for short) and Underwriters Laboratory (UL) guidelines.

Sentry Safe designs a variety of different types of safes that are high quality. The Sentry Safe SFW123DSB is a strong option for storing handguns as well as a few other items.

Those who own it really appreciate having it around:

“I really love this safe. It’s easy to open, I love that it’s fireproof for my hard drives, the light that comes on when you open the door is so useful, the little nooks and hooks in the door are great.” – Amazon Reviewer

“This is the third Sentry Safe I own, and like the others I am really impressed by how sturdy and well-made this one is.” – Amazon Reviewer

Sentry Safe SFW123DSB is convenient in the many different storage places it has installed into the safe. The safe boasts a key rack, a tray to put jewelry, pockets for electronic media such as DVD or CDs, and also features an adjustable shelf so you can more personalize the safe to your needs. The measurements for the inside of the safe are 13.8-inches by 12.6-inches by 11.9-inches for a total volume of 1.23 cubic feet.

  • One of the most attractive features of this safe is the fire-safe and water-safe features. Not every fire-protected safe is water tight, and this is important in case of a fire. Firefighters pour water into a house to save it, but it all runs to the basement where safes are typically stored. There’s no point in protecting your guns from fire if they get ruined by water! The safe boasts UL and ETL fire safe protection which ensures protection of most materials in safe for up to one hour. In addition, the Sentry Safe SFW123DSB offers a water safe feature of allowing it to sit in up to 8 inches of water for up to 24 hours.
  • The Sentry Safe SFW123DSB has been tested and has been ensured to be able to survive a 15 foot free fall drop with the contents in case intact. This isn’t just impressive, it’s practical. If you choose to store the safe in the second story of your home, and a fire occurs, it needs to be able to fall through the floor without falling apart. Otherwise, the fancy fire protection won’t be able to keep your guns protected!
  • This safe offers pry resistant hinge bars to prevent forced entry and also included 4 large 1 inch bolts that will allow you to further protect your safe by bolting it into place. The lock itself is a dual combination lock and key – the best of both worlds. If you’re as forgetful as I am, knowing that I can always go get the key is peace of mind. These security features make this safe an ideal option for higher grade valuables to be protected.

Overall, this safe is ideal for the family that is looking to store their firearms safely. It’s a bonus that you can also store valuables while away on a trip and not have to worry about fire or theft.

SentrySafe X Series

SentrySafe offers a series of 5 straightforward, easy to use keypad lock safes under its X series:

  • The SentrySafe 041E, which has 0.4 cubic feet of space,
  • The SentrySafe X055, which has 0.5 cubic feet of space,
  • The SentrySafe X075, which has 0.75 cubic feet of space,
  • The SentrySafe X105, which has 1 cubic foot of space, and
  • The SentrySafe X125, which has 1.25 cubic feet of space.

The naming of these safes is actually pretty clever – the number after the X tells you how much space the safe has. So for instance, the X075 has 0.75 cubic feet, and so on – it must make things easier to keep track of for production and sales!

Each version of this safe includes the following features:

  • 2 live locking bolts
  • Pry resistant door (the frame overhangs the door edge so that a crowbar can’t be inserted to pry it open)
  • Option to bolt down to the floor or wall
  • Override key that can be used if the batteries die or you misplace or forget the combination

Each model of the X series is a quality product, but I don’t recommend buying either the X041E or the X055 because they aren’t big enough to hold a standard sized laptop. Tablets, laptops, and other devices are extremely common targets of criminals, and unless you plan to take them all with you every trip you take out of town, you’re going to want to be able to lock them up. Also, even if you don’t think you’ll need to be able to lock up a laptop, these small safes allow no flexibility should you need to store more items in the future – you might just end up buying a whole new safe down the read. In my opinion it’s better to spend a few more dollars now to avoid that

These safes are rated to store firearms, and the larger ones could hold multiple handguns. In the grand scheme of things, this type of safe is sometimes referred to as a “deterrent” safe that will likely only stop theft by opportunistic thieves. In other words, it will keep guns out of the hands of your children and a thief who broke in to do a smash and grab job. But this type of safe won’t be able to stop the determined thief with the right tools on hand. Fortunately, most people don’t need to worry about this – professional thieves only break into places where they know they will get a high payout. So long as you don’t flaunt your valuables and follow basic home safety tips (, you should be in good shape with this safe.

Ultimately this safe is a great budget option for anyone who needs to store a handgun or two as well as a few other valuables while you’re on vacation or want the protection of a firearm nearby at night. It doesn’t provide the security of Fort Knox, but not many safes do (the best security comes from the largest gun safes which have thick steel walls and can’t easily be moved).

Most homeowners would benefit from owning this safe and I highly recommend it!

Winchester R31 Ranger Deluxe

Winchester is a long standing company that first went into production in 1866. They have manufactured a multitude of products that range from firearms to safes to house them in. This includes monitoring each safe consistently through the manufacturing process to make sure quality guidelines are met.

n addition, Winchester offers its customers a free replacement guarantee if your safe is damaged in a fire or burglary attack. This free replacement guide includes locksmith service and free curbside delivery of the new safe should it ever be needed.

This safe is able to withstand fire up to a heat of 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit for up to an hour. In addition the safe is also insulated with three layers of ½” fireboard in side the door and two layers of 5/8” fireboard to offer your more fragile valuables more protection. The gaps in the door are protected by a Palusol heat expandable door seal.

Though the Winchester R31 Ranger Deluxe Safe runs a bit pricey the convenience of storage space and security make the purchase more than worthwhile. It includes the following features:

  • A door panel organizer. This has many pockets that allow you to store gun ammo, jewelry, knives or important documents. This feature allows you to take full advantage of the storage capacity of the safe – best to be efficient with what you get, because it’s pricey to end up buying two!
  • The door is composite door constructed and UL certified for burglary. This makes the safe ideal to protect your valuables from a possible break in and as result is a great choice if you are concerned about burglary. The safe is too large to move quickly and the lock should keep out any unwanted intruders and their sticky fingers.
  • This safe features an electronic lock that takes away from the stress of trying to keep track of a loose key. The downside of electronic locks is that they require batteries to run – be sure to always keep a few spares around so you don’t have to hassle with going to the store before you can open your safe. You may even consider purchasing some rechargeable batteries.

While this safe is extremely functional and just plain gets the job done, it also is very attractive and will easily fit into any room in home (so long as the floor can support it!). The Silver exterior has a classy look to the front of the safe and it also sports the Winchester Company logo. This safe would not look out of place in a family room or in a large bedroom, or even in a closet.

This safe is ideal to use if you have a large amount of valuables that need to be protected as there are many storage spaces inside the safe itself. The Winchester R31 Ranger Deluxe’s 12 gauge body construction in addition to the composite construction door should give any consumer have peace of mind leaving their valuables behind in its protection.

Blue Dot Safes Second Amendment Review

Say you’ve been researching gun safes, and came across one called the “Second Amendment”. It’s a pretty bold claim to use a reference to the Constitutional amendment that gives the right to bear arms. You’d probably expect a few things of a safe with that name, like:

  • Manufactured in the United States
  • High Quality
  • Excellent Customer Service

Well, I’m happy to report that these are all true, and all that at a very

easonable cost. The Second Amendment safe was created by Blue Dot, which has been around since 2004. Although they are young compared to other safe companies, they are reliable to produce high quality gun storage.

For what you’d pay for a budget safe, you get the following with the Second Amendment:

  • The capacity to store up to 30 rifles and over 20 cubic feet total storage space. While not everyone needs this much space (and there is a smaller and less expensive model available that stores up to 24 guns), it is standard practice to buy a safe that is larger than you think you need. This is because many new safe owners suddenly realize that there are actually many personal items they want to protect using their new safe, and planning ahead by buying a bigger safe helps to keep you from running out of room.
  • High end security features, such as 12 gauge steel thickness, a two-way locking system with bolts that hold behind the door frame in multiple directions, a drill resistant plate to keep the lock safe from tampering, and a weight of 650 pounds. While many consider a high weight to be undesirable because it’s hard to get heavy safes down stairs, it is actually a security feature. Potential thieves can’t just carry it up the stairs and out of your house, and because they can’t just pry it open, your risk of losing your valuables is lower. There are also two predrilled holes in the floor of the safe to bolt it to the floor that further help to keep it firmly in place.

Potential Disadvantages

There are some possible disadvantages to this safe. One is that it does not come with a backup key, so if you forget your code, there isn’t another way to get into the safe. Some customers have been able to regain access with a master code by calling the customer service department and supplying proof of purchase.

Another potential disadvantage, depending on your personal taste, is the electronic lock. Some of us don’t like having to constantly replace batteries just to access our guns. Blue Dot has actually received enough complains about this that they offer installation of a mechanical lock if it’s requested when the safe is purchased – a real win-win and proof of the high quality customer service they offer.

The fire protection offered by this safe is for 1-hour up to 1,700 degrees – enough to withstand most residential fires. It also comes with door-hanging organizational pouches and shelving that allow you to store handguns and other valuables.

Also, when you order the safe that is 59x28x20-inches and it is fulfilled by Amazon, shipping is free! That’s an unbeatable deal!

The owners of this safe sum it up best:

Design seems solid and will last a lifetime… – Amazon Reviewer

Very nice safe. The specs on this safe are very good for the price paid. Fit, finish, and construction are all good. – Amazon Reviewer

Gunbox Biometric Version Review

It’s not often you get to describe a gun safe as cool, but the Gunbox Biometric Version fits the bill. I mean, just look at it – it’s a well designed machine that looks like it dropped out of Star Wars. It has a sleek, white exterior with a black band running down the front and a simple fingerprint scanner. While it might not be able to hold a lightsaber, it does feature the latest in actual technology and represents one of the very best handgun safes out there. It does come at a fairly steep price compared to other comparable gun safes, but we HIGHLY recommend it because its advanced technology provides superior protection.

Some of its features include:

  • It can be opened by fingerprint, RFID wristband, ring, or sticker. If you’re unfamiliar with RFID, it’s a technology used by businesses to track inventory or as a security measure. Use of it in this safe means that you can simply slip on a ring and wave it over the lid and like magic, it pops open! If you feel that there’s a chance that use of the ring might compromise the security of the safe (ie. if you use the sticker and think it’s likely that your teenagers have figured out where you keep it), then you can disable this option. If you choose to use your fingerprint only to open it, you can set it so that it requires multiple fingerprints to open so that you can be absolutely sure that it only opens when you are present.
  • An aluminim alloy shell that is rated at aircraft strength. This is important as comparable many safes its size have thin steel walls that don’t represent much of a challenge to a prepared intruder with an axe. It is also very heavy as a result, which is good because you don’t want it moving around too much!
  • It also has a loud alarm that can be set to sound if the safe is moved at all. This will help give you peace of mind that your kids haven’t touched the safe – as soon as they hear the alarm they’ll go running – and as soon as you hear it you know what is happening! If that’s overkill for your situation, you can also set the motion sensor to simply display a red light if it senses movement.
  • It features good capacity – many owners have commented on this. It can easily fit two handguns or a handgun and a magazine. If you want to store a few other valuables and documents in the safe too it can easily accommodate them.
  • Keeping batteries charged can also be less of a worry with this safe. This is because it has two USB ports that can be plugged into a computer or wall outlet with a USB converter. It also can run on batteries if you want to take it on a trip and store guns in a car or hotel room.

Overall, we feel like we can’t give this safe a high enough rating. It’s top notch and worth every penny. Of course, it takes quite a few pennies to purchase, and there are plenty of good options out there for a smaller price that will still meet most of your needs. But for a bulletproof gun storage solution – go with the Gunbox Biometric Version!

Mesa Safe Company – MBF6032E

Mesa Safe Company is a relative newcomer to the gun safe industry compared to the likes of a Winchester or a Remington. They were founded in 1981 to start making high quality cash safes for businesses, but soon expanded into residential safes. The founder, who still runs the company, started his working career as a locksmith, and using his hands-on, practical knowledge, oversaw the creation of reasonably priced and high quality safes.

One of the most popular safes they offer is the MBF6032E, which is

Mesa MBF6032E Gun Safe

given high ratings by those who own it. The following comments are typical:

I’d been putting off buying a gun safe for a long time and I finally took the plunge. I feel like this was a good deal and I got a lot of bang for the buck so to speak. – Amazon Customer Review

We are in Canada so gun safe is required. This safe is such a good option that we have two of them now! – Amazon Customer Review

So enough talk – let’s get to the bottom line. What does this safe offer?

  • Fire protection up 1,750 degrees for 1 hour. Most residential fires are noticed quickly, especially if you live in a city or small town. If a fire happens at your house, it’s unlikely that it would last over an hour. That is – unless you live in a rural area without neighbors for miles around. In that case, you may want a higher fire rating temperature and duration.
  • Weight of 650 pounds. While it may be a hassle to move this safe into your basement or storage space the first time, it’s weight makes it unlikely that it can be moved out of your house in an attempted robbery (unless they happened to hire a moving crew!). It also comes with predrilled holes to allow you to bolt it into your basement floor, and if you do that, this safe won’t be going anywhere!
  • Over 14 cubic feet of storage – enough space to store around 20 rifles. The number of rifles stored may be lower depending on if your rifles have scopes or are larger for any reason.
  • An electronic lock with relocking device. This means that you get the convenience of a modern keypad to open the safe, and the relocking device ensures that if the lock is tampered with, the safe goes into “lockdown” mode so that it can’t be unlocked. The keypad is run on batteries, and if they ever run out of juice, they are easily replaced by removing the keypad putting fresh ones in the back. It also comes with an emergency key so that if you are every locked out for any reason, you can still get access to your guns and valuables.
  • Adjustable shelving is included so that you can store other valuables in the safe, such as jewelry, important documents, and smaller handguns.

Mesa Safe also has fantastic and responsive customer service so that if you do have an issue with the safe, it will get resolved quickly. The MBF6032E is a fantastic choice for its price and won’t let you down!

Paragon 7775 Lock and Safe Review

The Paragon 7775 Lock and Safe is one of the newer products being offered from Paragon Lock and Safe. This safe is quite versatile and able meets the needs of handgun owners. Not to mention that this safe is a screaming deal, weighing in at less than $300.

Customers appreciate the ease of use and price and have said things such as,

“This safe is great! I bought it for my mom and she loves it. The setup was simple and it’s easy to use, I recommend this for anyone at any age. It was worth every penny”

Paragon 7775 Lock and Safe is constructed with 11 gauge solid steel. The safe is 51 pounds and is therefore not easily taken from the location that you put it in. In addition, the doors on the inside also have tamper proof hinges installed with the added benefit of the door opening to the right.

  • The safe due to its large weight is hard to move, however, this may not prevent the most determined thieves. To circumvent this issue this safe has had pre-drilled holes specially installed into the safe along with included bolts so that the consumer has the option of bolting the safe into place. This can save the consumer hours of work as drilling into safes can be difficult and very time consuming.
  • Paragon 7775 Lock and Safe allows the consumer the option of programming a key code for entry or using the 2 included keys. Some consumers may not feel protected with one or the other and may want to use both, or some consumers may ultimately decide that the hassle of keeping track of a key is too much and just use the key code.

The safe is ideal for an individual who has a collection of items that need to be stored permanently in one place and to protect your valuables from those who they need to be kept away from. The drawback of the size of the safe is mitigated by the ability to bolt it into place. In addition, the options of using a key code or a regular key are ideal. Paragon 7775 Lock and Safe is long lasting and reliable and any consumer would be happy with the purchase.

Potential disadvantages for this safe include:

  • Not being fire rated. This safe is not tested to withstand fires, and wasn’t design to protect your belongs in case of one. If you want fire protection then you should look for another safe – and be prepared to pay more.
  • There are reports of the lock being easily bypassed, specifically by this Amazon reviewer:

I would think this safe would be great if they just put a locking mechanism on it that does not open simply by hitting the top of the safe…All you need to do is hit the top a couple times while turning the knob and then it opens right up.
